Getting a Driver's License in the Republic of Kazakhstan

The process of getting a driver's license can be divided into several stages:
- Attending lessons on road traffic rules and practical driving.
- Collecting documents.
- Submitting documents.
- Passing exams and receiving a driver's license.

The practical examination shall be taken in a vehicle of the category for which the driver's license will be issued:
- Vehicles of subcategory “A1” - persons who have reached the age of sixteen.
- Vehicles of categories “A”, “B” and subcategories “B1”, “C1” - persons who have reached the age of eighteen.
- Vehicles of categories “C” and subcategory “D1” - persons who have reached the age of twenty-one and whose driving experience is not less than three years, including at least one year of driving experience of subcategory “C1”.
- Vehicles of categories “D” and “Tb” - persons who have reached the age of twenty-three, whose driving experience is not less than three years, including at least one year of driving experience of subcategory "D1".
- Combinations of vehicles of categories "BE", "CE", "DE" - persons having the right to drive vehicles of categories "B", "C" or "D" respectively for at least twelve months.
- Combinations of vehicles of subcategories "C1E", "D1E" - persons having the right to drive vehicles of categories "C", "D" or subcategories "C1", "D1" respectively for at least twelve months.

Driver's license categories
- “A”, “A1” - two- wheel motorcycles.
- “B” - motor vehicles with a maximum authorized mass not exceeding 3,500 kg, designed and constructed for the carriage of not more than 8 passengers in addition to the driver, and capable of reaching a speed of not less than 100 km/h.
- “C”, “C1” - trucks with a maximum authorized mass exceeding 3,500 kg.
- “D1” - buses designed and constructed for the carriage of no more than 28 passengers and not more than 7.0 meters in length.
- "D” - buses designed and constructed for the carriage of no more than 28 passengers and not less than 7.0 meters in length.
- “BE” - vehicles of category “B” with a trailer, the maximum authorized mass of which is not less than 1000 kg, while the combination of vehicles exceeds 3500 kg.
- “CE”, “C1E” - trucks of category “C” with a trailer (two or more axles with a distance between them of more than 1 m) or a semi-trailer.
- “DE”, “D1E” - buses of categories “D” or “D1” with a trailer, the maximum authorized mass of which is not less than 1000 kg.
